The Nature of Humanity
Housing, Tokyo
2017
Aa single family house in Japan was designed that combines living and traditional craftsmanship in a structural sculpture. In producing a series of spaces that counteracts our current built environment, the spirit of voluntary improvement derived from the traditional Japanese tea ceremony was perpetuated in our architecture. Consequently, in the spaces that we produce, the idea of time and space that exists is slowed down into universal set of qualities of weight, gravity, agility, and perhaps a kind of meditative repose. Movement, the connecting component of time and space, is orchestrated by the almost quizzical circulation around the spaces. This series of movements form a procession that filters one from the contrasting environments of the external and the internal.
