Courtyard landscape

The pioneering “Hoflandschaft Kalverdonk” neighbourhood is to be built in Meerbusch, in the immediate vicinity of Düsseldorf, and is characterised by a unique lifestyle between city and country life.
A total of eight farmsteads of different sizes in the form of conglomerates of courtyard-style apartment blocks make up the new neighbourhood in the agricultural region. The smaller farmsteads create a village character with identity-forming meeting and communal spaces on the ground floor, while the medium-sized and larger farmsteads extend the meeting space with identity-forming attractions such as a café, a farm shop, an organic bakery and a neighbourhood library.
The surrounding area of these farmsteads is characterised by organic farming, the products of which are sold in the farm shops. However, there are also numerous orchards and woodlands that invite visitors to explore and linger. This does not affect the designated habitats in the form of wildflower meadows and hedgerows next to the fields to preserve biodiversity. Furthermore, the apple, pear and cherry housing estates, which combine the terraced house typology with the rural element of the orchard meadow, are located adjacent to the existing detached house estates.
