Echo of the Mountains
Cultural Center, Nepal
2018
In Nepal, we designed a cultural centre as part of a competition in which the architecture was sensitively integrated into the landscape. Mountains always represented an important part of Nepalese culture. Not only because the landscape is characterized by its breathtaking beauty – also has the Buddhist faith awarded them a tremendous spiritual importance. By picking up the contour lines of the opposing mountain ranges in the geometry of the building the mountains are incorporated into the overall image of the community centre. The topography is dug up for optimal use in accordance with traditional terraces, whereby the excavated material is returned in sophisticated modules as a building material to the supporting outer walls. In the space between the two curved structures, an additional roof covers the central common room, which opens up a view over the entire valley.
