Courtyard garden

The Courtyard Garden new-build project offers versatile generational living in Essen. The project is being built on the site of a former single-storey church building and will be rearranged in the form of a courtyard structure. It combines different forms of housing in a mixed user structure: a multi-storey social housing building is combined with senior citizens’ flats, with care facilities on the ground floor. In addition, terraced houses will be realised as privately financed housing.

Some of the outdoor areas are communal and provide meeting places for residents to socialise. These areas are enclosed and clearly defined by walls. The area is characterised by orchards, which lend the project a natural character and further enhance the outdoor space.

The design for the site of the former church thus offers a sustainable solution for generational living in Essen.
